As a lifelong reader and founding member of a ten-year-old book club, I’ve learned that the end of the year is a special moment for any group of readers. It’s a chance to look back on the stories that shaped our conversations, celebrate our favorite picks, and create something meaningful to remember the year by. If you’re planning your final meeting of the year, here are a few thoughtful, fun, and budget-friendly book club celebration ideas to make the end of the year memorable.
SHARE A SMALL GIFT OF APPRECIATION
To show appreciation for fellow members, consider a small literary-themed token. My gifts for book lovers guide features my favorite bookish presents. Whether your group prefers practical, cozy, or whimsical items, there’s something for every reader.
This doesn’t need to be a formal exchange — a small gesture of gratitude is always welcome and a lovely way to acknowledge the friendships and conversations shared through the year.
DIY BOOK-THEMED ORNAMENT
One of my favorite traditions is crafting a custom ornament that represents everything we’ve read together. We started doing this a few years ago. This is a perfect hands-on activity to do as a group during your end-of-year meeting.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Clear ball ornaments
- Try these twist-open clear plastic ball ornaments that are the ones in the video below. Or go with a solid plastic or glass ball ornament that you fill from the top. The twist opens are a little more forgiving if you want to adjust or change the “books” while the other options look a bit sleeker.
- Mini “books”
- There are so many ways to make these. The video below uses a thin cardboard or chip board. This option is best for the twist-open ball ornaments. My book club has made them a couple times with a thin foam sheet. The foam is flexible and will fit in the solid ball ornaments that you fill from the top. If you gently fold them just enough to fit and quickly them in, they will quickly expand back out and look great!
- Ribbon
- To hang your ornaments you’ll need some ribbon. And Fray Check is always a good idea to keep your ribbon ends together and looking brand new.
- Decals or vinyl stickers
- Finally, don’t forget to label your ornament with the year using small number decals.

CREATE A CUSTOMIZED ANNUAL READING STATS GRAPHIC
If your club tracks what you read — number of books, pages read, genres, longest pick — turn your stats into a beautiful year-end graphic. It’s both a celebration and a snapshot of your club’s unique taste each year.
You can share the graphic digitally, or turn it into something tangible:
TURN YOUR STATS INTO A BOOKMARK
This is such a charming keepsake, especially for avid readers. Print your annual stats graphic on sturdy cardstock and trim it into bookmark size. Slip it into a clear bookmark sleeve and tie a piece of ribbon at the top to make a tassel. Voilà — a personal, meaningful gift you can give every member.

Celebrating your book club doesn’t have to be complicated — sometimes the simplest book club celebration ideas become the most cherished. Whether you’re crafting ornaments, printing personalized bookmarks, or exchanging thoughtful gifts, taking a moment to acknowledge a year spent reading together makes your club feel even more connected. Here’s to another year of great books and even better conversations!
